What is Spears philosophy on QUALITY & VALUE?

Value is a relative term defined as quality for the money. Another way of putting it is “You get what you pay for”. At Spears, that means we want to make sure you get the quality you pay for.

There are thousands of furniture manufacturers in the world to choose from. Spears is the "Furniture Expert", and a large part of our job is to find the best VALUES in home furnishings and bring them to Lubbock, Texas for our customers.

Spears Furniture is "Where Quality Starts". You can be assured that the home furnishings you find at Spears are of sufficient QUALITY that we are willing to put our name and reputation behind them. Also, the products we sell are the ones we choose for our own homes.

A fact of life in the furniture manufacturing business is that it is easy to hide poor construction and materials underneath the surface of a wood finish or a pretty fabric. However, over time, the poor quality will come to the surface. You really do "get what you pay for". At Spears, we will help you understand what you are paying for, and let you make the decisions about how much you want to spend, in keeping with your expectations of quality. For instance, we sell SOFAS from a range of manufacturers for about $600 to $6,000 (and up). And a $6,000 sofa is definitely better than a $600 sofa. How much better? We'll explain, and let you decide.

In regard to SOFAS, for example, "Where Quality Starts" means that Spears has found that a sofa regularly selling for less than $600 probably has too many compromises to make it a quality piece of furniture. So we choose not to sell sofas for under $600 (exception - Closeouts, see below). This same principle applies to everything we sell at Spears Furniture. The lower range of our prices is the threshold at which you are going to get QUALITY and VALUE.

What does Spears offer in the way of SELECTION?

Another important ingredient of satisfying furniture shopping you will find at Spears Furniture is the wide range of STYLES, PRICES and MANUFACTURERS. With our SW Lubbock location, and 30,000 square feet of variety, Spears offers the largest selection of Quality (see above) Home Furnishings on the South Plains. Also, because Spears is a multi-line store, we (and you!) have access to millions of choices of the finest furniture in America through Special Orders (see above).

Many people aren't sure what STYLE of furniture they like, and many people like several styles (this is called "Eclectic"). The Variety of Styles you find at Spears enables you to see what is available and to create an environment in your home that is as unique as you are. From Traditional to Transitional to Modern to Contemporary, Spears offers it all.

Similarly, in regard to PRICES, many people like the range of prices they find at Spears. For instance, some people (with kids...) may want inexpensive furniture (that is a good value) in the game room, that they can get rid of in five or ten years when they wear it out. But they might want fine, heirloom-quality furniture in their master bedroom that will last for decades. Spears offers both, and everything in between.

A trend in the retail furniture business in recent years has been toward Single Manufacturer Furniture Stores. There are a few right here in Lubbock, Texas. And even though this type of store may be a good deal for the manufacturer (through a monopoly on distribution and showing a lot of their products) and for the retailer (who can charge higher prices with less competition), at Spears we don't think it's a good deal for you, the customer. Spears offers furniture from most of the best MANUFACTURERS in the world.

Why is being LOCALLY OWNED & OPERATED important?

Spears Furniture is, and always has been, locally owned and operated. This fact offers several advantages to you as a customer:

1) Our West Texas roots give us a better UNDERSTANDING of local tastes. Our buyers have a much better understanding of what people in this area like than the buyers of chain stores who live hundreds and even thousands of miles away.

2) When it comes to SERVICE, there is no question that Spears Furniture does a better job than a store in another city or state. The furniture business is unlike the automobile business in regard to warranty service. The local retailer is under no obligation to service furniture bought elsewhere. But Spears stands behind what we sell, and we bend over backwards to keep our customers satisfied. Just try to get that kind of service from an out-of-town store.

3) In every city in the United States, there is usually one or two locally owned furniture stores that offer home furnishings from the best manufacturers in the world, at competitive prices, servicing the product they sell, etc. In Lubbock, Texas, Spears Furniture is THE STORE. There is no need to go to Dallas, or North Carolina, or New York City to get good furniture at good prices. You can get it all at Spears Furniture.

4) Spears has another crucial ingredient to make furniture shopping better that out-of-town stores don't offer - helpful, knowledgeable, friendly designer-type salespeople who are willing to do HOUSE CALLS. That's right, our salespeople will make an appointment to come to your home and measure, look at the colors and find out how you use your room(s), and help you develop a PLAN that works for you. This won't happen with out-of-town stores!

5) Finally, because we live here in West Texas, Spears has a much greater ACCOUNTABILITY than out-of-town furniture stores. We shop here, eat at the same restaurants, go to the same churches and schools, are members of the same organizations, etc. as our customers, and this is something only a locally-owned store can do.
