Why should I consider SPECIAL ORDERS?
Life is filled with VARIETY, and furniture is no exception. Don't LIMIT yourself to what Spears Furniture, or any other retail store, shows on the floor. At the International Furniture Market our buyers attend twice a year, over 10 Million square feet of furniture are shown. And this is just a small fraction of what the furniture manufacturers offer! Just one of our best manufacturers (Sherrill) offers over 100 sofa frames in approximately 2,000 different fabrics - that's over 200,000 different sofas. Add in contrasting pillows, trims, finishes, etc., and the possibilities go easily into the millions - from one manufacturer.
Spears Furniture believes in, and encourages Special Orders, because they enable you to get exactly what you want. Unlike other furniture stores, Spears doesn't imposes NO UPCHARGE to order something we don't have in stock. We price our merchandise consistently with what the manufacturer charges us. No games or gimmicks - Just honest, straightforward values on quality home furnishings. For example, if you like a bedroom group on our floor, but want a different bed, or nightstand, we will price it consistently. If you want a different fabric (of the same "grade") on a new sofa on our floor, your price will be the same as the one on the floor in most circumstances.
Plus, furniture manufacturers have made great progress in the last few years on SPEEDING-UP the Special Order process. Most wood- furniture is available in 2 to 4 weeks. And upholstery furniture manufacturers custom-make your sofa in your fabric choice in 4 to 10 weeks, generally (depending on fabric availability). That's not a long time to wait for just the right furniture for you, and that you will use and enjoy for years and years!
In addition, Spears offers the Prevue computer system for several upholstery manufacturers so you can SEE THE FABRIC you like on a sofa frame you like, so as to better visualize what it will look like. For wood furniture, Spears tries to have as much variety on the floors, so you can see the finish and quality before you order. In most cases, a wood finish sample is usually available.
Talk to a Spears designer/salesperson about the details of Special Ordering, such as deposits, re-stocking fees, etc. Their job is to help you make a good decision and avoid mistakes, and get exactly what you want.
Delivery
What are Spears DELIVERY SERVICES?
Spears furniture believes that the DELIVERY of your furniture should be commensurate with the quality of the furniture, and should be done by professionals who have the right equipment, training and experience to do the job right. After all, this is furniture you are going to have for years and years. It deserves the kind of preparation and handling that only professionals who do it a lot can provide. That is a big reason that local deliveries are only $30, and out-of-town deliveries are usually $50 to $100, depending on the distance.
Doing things right does take a little longer. And we know how much you want to get your new furniture in your home so you can begin to enjoy it. But Spears has been delivering furniture to homes in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico for over half a century, and it has been our experience that proper preparation (and professionalism) are extremely important. Thus, our policies are:
1) A THREE-DAY "wait" or "preparation time" is utilized to gather-up, inspect and deluxe the merchandise. This means that you as a customer need to plan ahead and ask for delivery as much in advance as possible. We thank you in advance for this, and assure you that this will tend to make the rest of the delivery go much smoother.
2) Deliveries are scheduled TWO DAYS in advance. (Example: Friday deliveries are set and customers called on Wednesday.) If you have NOT been called by the DAY BEFORE the expected delivery date, call your salesperson, because something is wrong. This applies to local AND out-of-town deliveries.
3) Spears delivers locally (Lubbock County) TUESDAY through SATURDAY. Delivery times are typically 9:00am to 5:00pm. At the time of the sale, your salesperson will ask for your preference as to AM or PM delivery. Then when the delivery department calls TWO DAYS in advance (see above), they will work with you to narrow the delivery time down to about a ONE HOUR WINDOW. Or, if you prefer, arrangements can be made to call you right before so you can meet the deliverymen.
4) Good communication with the delivery department is very important. Please discuss any special delivery situations such as upstairs or downstairs, or furniture to be moved out, when they call you to set up the delivery. This helps with SCHEDULING. Spears' policy regarding your old merchandise is that we are glad to help move out of the room whatever is being replaced by the new furniture we are delivering. We do ask that you be as prepared as possible prior to the delivery. In addition, due to liability reasons AND the tight schedule, Spears Deliverymen cannot move OTHER customer-owned merchandise while performing scheduled deliveries. However, if a customer wants to hire the deliverymen to come back to their house to move items later, when they are not working on company time and liability, this is permissible. The deliverymen welcome this chance to make some extra money and help out customers. All arrangements, including payment, should be made between the customer and the deliverymen, and should not involve Spears Furniture.
5) Out-of-town deliveries are made on a regular basis to our trade area of 150 mile radius from Lubbock (this is an area of 70,000 square miles - bigger than most states!). In general, our out-of-town days are Wednesday and Friday. EVERY TWO WEEKS, Spears delivers to all SEVEN areas, corresponding to the seven highways leading out of Lubbock (The Hub City). All the other rules and guidelines noted above apply. Especially on out-of-town deliveries, we ask for FLEXIBILITY. If you cannot be there for the delivery, many times a neighbor, friend or relative can substitute.
6) Because Spears wants to service what we sell, deliveries beyond 150 miles from Lubbock are generally discouraged, with a couple of exceptions. We have enough customers in Roswell and Ruidoso, New Mexico, that we go there several times a year, when we have about $10,000 in sales. The other exception is for very large sales (>$10,000), and a substantial delivery charge will be required.
